MTV EMA's 2021 Intro
For the MTV Europe Music Awards 2021, rugl.studio was commissioned to create the visual intro for the award ceremony. We received footage of a dancer in a red suit and were responsible for transforming it into a stylized, high-energy opener that matched the visual world of the EMAs. I designed the VFX look for the dancer, created a custom 3D model of the MTV trophy, and handled rotoscoping for several scenes to integrate the live-action performance seamlessly into the final aesthetic.

The supplied footage required extensive rotoscoping and cleanup. Additionally, the intro needed a strong visual identity that echoed the iconic MTV award styling while working within the constraints of the existing footage.
I designed a VFX treatment inspired by the metallic, sculptural look of the EMA trophy. By combining detailed rotoscoping, layered effects, and a consistent visual motif, we turned the raw dancer footage into a cohesive sequence that felt unmistakably MTV.
